It really depends on your needs and the project brief. Sometimes, it's possible to get the perfect shots really quickly. In order to capture shots you're happy with, it's important you wear something you're comfortable in for your portrait photoshoot. Of course, your clothing depends largely on the brief and your requirements. At the end of the day, this is your portrait shoot, so it's entirely up to you, or your stylist, what you choose to wear.
